Wario is Mario's enemy. They are not related. Some people say that the reason Wario is so mean to Mario is because when they were kids Mario was a bully. Wario's older brother is Waluigi. Wario first appeared in Super Mario Land 2. The "W" sign on his hat may or may not stand for Wario. It could just be an upside down M. In Super Smash Bros. Melee you can change the color of Mario's outfit to look like Wario's.
